Question / Help OBS will suddenly drop CPU usage and stop streaming

My OBS will drop from about 25% CPU usage and go to around 2% CPU usage randomly, leave a frozen image on the preview and will stop streaming, but will claim that it still is streaming due to the fact that I have to press 'Stop Streaming' to end the application.

There are a lot of these reports if you search the forums. By any chance are you using Windows 10 and have patched it recently. Alos try capture with Open GL helped with me.

i also had this problem and im using w10
i ended up reinstalling it with an older patch and it seems to have fixed the issue for me, didnt freeze during the last 6 hours anyway

Are you using OBS Studio directly, or some other software (like Tachyon or obs-studio-ftl)? If you're using OBS Studio directly, then when was the last time you updated OBS Studio? The current version of OBS Studio for Windows is 0.15.4.

If you're using some other software based on OBS Studio, have you checked with those authors?

This error usually indicates an issue caused by the Windows 10 Anniversary Update (Version 1607) or one of the recent Windows 10 updates (KB3176938 or KB3189866) which has been known to interfere with webcams. Try removing your webcam source from your scene(s). If that works, try adding your webcam back in. If it causes problems again, then you might consider rolling back the above Windows Updates one at a time to see if one of them is causing your issue. If the problem is a Windows Update, then let us know and please consider reporting that to Microsoft via their built-in Feedback Hub.

I'm having the same problem as Op but it seems to be only happening with Ark: survival evolved.
I removed the webcam source since I had added one but rarely use it and managed to stay playing for 8 good minutres and then it happened again. Heres my log.
Will check if it still happens while I play wow or something else.
