Question / Help OBS Studio Preview Stutter

I've recently purchased the Elgato HD60 Pro capture card and started to use OBS Studio (regular OBS has issues with the Elgato card).

Everything runs perfect, but after a random time, when the preview window in OBS starts to stutter (shows several frames, stops for a millisecond, shows more, stops etc) it starts to translate that to my Twitch stream.

My only way to solve this is to refresh the card in the settings (deactivate, re-activate) and then it's fixed, but it will happen again after a random amount of time.

It's a shame I need to constantly monitor my preview to make sure it's running smooth for my viewers -- I shouldn't have to be dependent on them to let me know there's something wrong with the stream.

I know of several people who don't have this issue...

Why is this happening? I've upgraded from using Avermedia C127 (OBS) with 0 issues. I went with Elgato because I can stream/play 1080p now. I've looked at all the threads and guides online to optimize this card using OBS Studio, but I keep running into this problem.

I don't believe it's my computer -- running Intel i7 @ 3.8Ghz with 32GB of RAM on 512GB SSD.

Any help? Thanks.

I've been having the same issue. It will duplicate what seems like 10 frames every 4-6 and be behind. After 20 seconds or so it will skip all of those duplicated frames to live. I can hear the stuttering in the audio as well. I see threads about this all over the place, but non of the solutions have worked or a request for data logs were made with no follow up posts. Like they pm'd the resolution instead of posting. I've also made a thread about this https://obsproject.com/forum/threads/obs-elgato-hd60-pro.49636/ so we'll see what's going on :(

Yeah, I ended up returning the card because I found more and more people with the same issues or similar and Elgato support was no help after working with them for a whole week. My solution was to get rid of the damn thing and got my money back. Never buy Elgato again.

I'm having the exact same issue, with both the Elgato HD60 Pro and the Elgato HD60 S across multiple machines. I'm also going to return them both if a fix for this issue isn't provided. Such a shame, too. I love Elgato too much to want to get rid of them, and I love OBS too much to get rid of it. Le sigh.

NekoMina,

Done more research and spoke to Elgato more and others... and it appears that OBS just isn't fit to use any Elgato product well. The Pro and S devices work well with Xsplit and is recommended to use. I still returned my devices, because I refuse to pay for Xsplit while OBS is free -- no reason for it. I would suggest returning them, or make the switch to Xsplit. :(

Yeah. It looks like I'm going to be returning them. I'm talking to someone from Elgato about it now, but it doesn't look like they're going to be able to provide any useful information.

I'll give it a couple more weeks since I have that long to return it. If OBS doesn't change things, or I can't find a fix until then, I'll do that. Really don't want to, though.

I do have a lifetime premium license for XSplit, but I really would much rather stick to OBS. I find it to be much easier and much more powerful for my current needs.

Oddly enough, it doesn't seem to run well in XSplit either. So is the device honestly that terrible? I'm pretty used to Elgato devices being reliable, but if everyone seems to be having the same issues... Le sigh.

I've gone ahead and returned the device due to a lack of response from the Elgato support team or the few people on this forum from the company. Shame, really.
