Question / Help OBS Studio Performance and NVENC issues

For some more background, see the thread I created for OBS classic: https://obsproject.com/forum/threads/obs-poor-nvenc-performance.47201/

Note: OBS Studio did not solve the problem linked above. It had around the same poor NVENC performance.

Because of the issues posted in that link, I installed OBS Studio to see if it would alleviate the problem. However, immediately after launching OBS Studio I noticed my FPS would drop ~10 frames just by having it open and NOT streaming/recording and having the preview off.

Here are a few numbers to back it up:
· The Division: OBS Studio closed = 89 fps vs. OBS Studio open = 78 fps vs. OBS classic open = 90 fps.
· 3dMark score: OBS Studio closed = 11790, OBS Studio open = 11010, OBS classic open = 11810.

So what exactly is going on? I tried both the x32 and x64 versions of OBS Studio and it had the same problem.

OBS Studio renders the preview continuously, even if disabled or minimized.

Is this something that can be disabled in the future or do the devs want it to be like that? Seems like an unnecessary extra strain on the CPU.

There's no chance of us finding out what exactly is going on if you don't post a log file. And do it from a five minute or longer encode of high action gameplay using the best settings you've come up with so far.
