So, I downloaded OBS Studio because I want to start a new channel on youtube and it doesnt want to record in 720p. It also lags a lot and it has black lines on the sides.

And I have a 1680x1050 monitor so what resolution do I use for the aspect ratio to be 16:9, because I tried 1280x720 and it didnt work. Please help me

You'd have to crop or stretch to get a 1680x1050 to fit into a 16:9 aspect ratio, because 1680x1050 isn't 16:9, its 16:10. I think your output stream would look better if you didn't insist on 16:9... just stay at 16:10. Your output resolution will be a bit uncommon but that's no big deal. Downscale it to whatever vertical resolution is at or greater than 720p (so that YouTube will downscale you to 720p instead of 480p). Let the horizontal resolution be whatever the math dictates it to be at 16:10 ratio.

If you really don't want to do that you'll need to crop the top and/or bottom of you screen, so that you get to a 16:9 ratio. You could also add to the sides to increase the horizontal resolution, webcam and informational stuff perhaps, but that would be hard to make look good depending on your game. The last option would be to stretch, but that looks like garbage imo, I wouldn't do that.
