Bug Report OBS Studio Freeze when Streaming

Just as an update I dont know if it helps. Once the Twitch stream cuts off and the OBS Studio preview freezes, if I hit "Stop Stream" the button name changes to "Stopping Stream..." and it just sits there. The desktop audio and mic/aux audio is still picking up. I then have to close OBS Studio which gives me the following message.

"OBS is currently active. All streams/recordings will be shut down. Are you sure you wish to exit?"

Here is the log file when I hit Stop Stream and it does nothing.

Also getting this issue. Can last anywhere from 15 minutes to a couple hours before freeze, but symptoms are identical. Tried downgrading to 15.3 (clean install) did not solve the problem. Computer is pretty new, but getting the exact same problem on our other older gaming rig as well with a clean 15.4 install.

EDIT: While I can only say for myself. the issue SEEM to have cropped up since the latest windows update (windows 10)

Another thing we have noticed, is that even when using the menu to close obs studio, we have to go into task manager and force obs to close via end task or else it will continue to run and draw resources.

Having the same issue, but KB3176938 doesn't show up in my installed updates list. It only shows 10 installed updates. Does anyone know how to show older updates?

This indeed worked.

Thank you to everyone for this advice!

If rolling back a Windows Update fixed an issue for you, please consider reporting that fact to Microsoft via their Feedback Hub (built in to Windows 10). Let them know that an update (specifically mention it) broke some functionality on your system (be specific).

If you recently ran Windows Update (any time after September 13), you might no longer have KB3176938 listed, but its successor, KB3189866. KB3189866 provides more fixes on top of the ones in KB3176938, so it may still cause issues like the ones discussed in this thread.

Unfortunately due to computer issues I had to recently reinstall Windows fresh from MS's website, and it's the "anniversary" update by default. Can't roll back since I have nothing to roll back to. And it seems nigh on impossible to get an ISO of the pre-anniversary-update Windows. I guess I'm stuck with this problem until it's fixed.

Anniversary Update broke webcams and video capture devices. KB3176938/KB3189866 tried to fix that, but seems to have caused issues with DX capture in general. KB3176938/KB3189866 should be able to be rolled back, if only temporarily.

Regardless, if you're having issues caused by a Windows Update, I encourage you to report it to Microsoft via their Feedback Hub.
