Question / Help OBS studio(FPS Issue?)

Hey there!

Hopefully, someone can help me out.
Just build a new rig

  • Ryzen 1700x OC 3.9ghz
  • GTX 1070
  • 16GB RAM 3200MHZ(Running at 2933)
  • Internet speed 150/15(Usually caps out @11)
When I'm streaming I notice an FPS drop GTA V From 70-90 FPS down to 40/45-60 FPS.
Now I would expect this on my old rig but my GPU nor CPU are even near max load.

GPU 30/40% / CPU 50-70% load, so there is plenty of room there. Is this to be expected or is there something that is causing an issue?

I'm streaming on either 720P/60FPS or 1080P/60FPS it barely makes a difference whether it's 720 or 1080P. if any at all.

Some other settings I have are -

Video bit rate 3500 / Encoder Software X264
Base & Output 1920x1080 / Downscale Filter Bicubic Sharpened scaling 16 samples / 59,94 FPS
Process priority normal, I've had this one high makes no difference.
As far as I know I did not install the new update from windows yet.

Any help at this point is more than welcome,

Thanks in advance!

I would like to report similar issues.

Ryzen build. Ingame on gta without obs is 80+
Ryzen 1700 gtx 980ti
No matter the settings I choose on obs I always get a 10/15% fps drop ingame.

Checked logs and see no encoder issues. No dropped frames.
Using game capture mode x264 at fast preset with lanzac or whatever it's called. Tried changing to bilinear changing encoding to superfast makes no difference.

The fps hit is always there. I've checked cpu usage in games and I sit at around 60% so it isn't making sense.

Would love input as well on this

@Jippyuk

I'm glad I'm not the only one.
I'm in the exact same boat as you. I don't drop frames don't see any issues, no matter what i do with the settings the drop is there. And the weird thing is, i've tested it on my brothers PC who has the 1800x gtx 980 TI and he was playing the new ghost recon everything @max started to stream+record and his fps didn't get a hit. it was 28-35ish like it was without streaming.

I've been trying to adjust what ever i can but the hit is just there. It doesn't matter what i change or what i do. It feels like there is something wrong but i can't pin point it.

I can't understand why i'm getting hit with these big drops as my CPU nor my GPU isn't even using half their power.

I've just updated to the latest 18.0.2 build of obs. I'll report back my findings later on if it makes a difference.

Im running win 10 x64.

I never had these frame hits before but I was using shadow play before my new build. Something funky going on but can't put my finger on it.

You can watch my latest stream of tld on twitch.tv/jippyuk. Off stream 60 fixed. On stream 45-50 fps with no reported drops or encoder overloads in obs log files.

I'll try that as well tonight when I'm back hopefully that fixes or at least reduce it.
Where did you find 18.0.2? I could only see 18.0.1

Getting 70-90 FPS in the game tells me you aren't using any kind of vsync or FPS limiter which means you're hitting some kind of bottleneck. Try capping your FPS to 60. Post a log.

I've vsync turned off correct. I'll try later when i have some more time to do some serious testing on the game with the issues. In any case, Is it normal to see those heavy frame dips even though CPU/GPU aren't even near 50%?

Thanks!
