Question / Help OBS Studio 20.1.1 CPU Usage increase

When I launch OBS, the CPU usage is around 2-3% when I don't have my capture card displaying. When I add my capture card, the CPU usage increases to around 22+%. I don't understand why, I have had my capture card in OBS hooked up to the same consoles and had it under 10% CPU before, but now it is double. Every time I stream I drop frames like crazy when I didn't have that problem as bad before. My bitrate is at 2000 on a 60 up/down connection. I don't know what my PC specs are, but I do my processor is an i7.

Here is my current log file:

Which Elgato model do you have? (HD, HD60, HD60-S, HD60 Pro)

Try to change your Elgato video capture to 1280x720 to be the same as your base resolution.

Elgato models without instant game view (USB 2.0 devices: HD, HD60) will use up extra CPU usage to decompress a heavily compressed 720p or 1080p video, due to a very limited USB 2.0 speed. Try to lower Elgato video capture resolution as this may help reduce CPU usage if your Elgato doesn't have instant game view.

Make sure your CPU isn't overheating and throttling (slowing down), use windows 10 task manager's Performance, CPU GHz for speed, and a downloadable program like HWMonitor that can monitor CPU temperature.

HWMonitor says my THRM is 154 F and Task Manager says my CPU speed is 1.32 GHz and the max speed is 2.4 GHz. How do I get my CPU temp to go down and my CPU faster?

You have a laptop CPU, so it won't run full speed if it doesn't need to. If it runs at half the frequency then 22% load is about the same as 10% load at full frequency.

You can set your Windows power plan to high performance to avoid this, but it will likely reduce battery life and waste energy.

Nah 22.0.1 even with the hotfix flat out uses more cpu, I haven't change a thing...at idle in task manger it's at the top and only increases when streaming or recording.

Whatever you guys added increases cpu load and I purley tested this with just flipping through game/window/display sources and nothing else that could add an additional load like other scenes and video sources.
