today i recorded for 3 and a half hours, but when i tried to end the recording it never stopped. the recording started at 11:13:42 and i pressed stop around 14:48:00 but it kept recording and just said 'stopping recording' and has since. i pressed the pause recording button at 14:49:07 because i didnt want the recording to get any longer and didnt know what else to do (i also accidentally pressed the start streaming button at one point and it started saying 'connecting...' and hasnt changed in hours either)
i want to know if theres some way to stop the recording without losing it. ive read some things saying that if you just end OBS in the task manager the recording will be saved as normal but might be missing a few seconds at the end which would be fine, but i dont want to risk losing my footage if that isnt actually the case. ive pressed the button that says 'stopping recording' multiple times bc ive seen people say thatll force it to stop recording but nothing happens when i press it again
in the folder where the 3 hour recording is supposed to be saved is a file that has the first half an hour of footage and nothing more. ive used OBS a few times in the exact same way i did today and havent had an issue with it before. i know OBS was recording throughout those 3 hours because i routinely checked to make sure it was every 20 minutes and didnt see any issues until i tried to stop recording, and im sure its not a space issue because i save all recordings directly to a 2TB portable drive. im worried that the full recording is gone and ill only have the first half an hour :(
*** my recording format is mkv NOT mp4 ***
ive seen a lot of things on this topic end with people saying "just use mkv and that wont happen" but i am using mkv so pls dont say that
thank you for reading, and sorry if i did anything wrong here!
im v new to this ;;
