OBS/Streamlabs OBS makes other videos playing lag

Running into an issue when trying to run OBS or Streamlabs OBS and watching a stream at the same time. Either the stream or the feed in OBS, or both, start lagging. It seems to work on and off, trying different browsers doesn't seem to fix it.

real-time video encoding is a demanding task for a computer.
it appears your OBS settings are asking too much for the computer you have
Not using OBS Studio mode stops the dual video rendering overhead
There are lots of articles and video on settings for OBS on under-powered computers. but be realistic in expectations

Please post a log with your issue! Here's how...

OBS Studio creates a log file each time you run it which contains very useful diagnostic information. Without a log file, it's much harder for any support volunteers to figure out problems and your post may be ignored. To upload a log file, go to the Help menu > Log Files > Upload Last Log...

It didn't always do this though, it's a recent issue that just started so something needs to have changed about the software or hardware and I haven't changed my OBS settings

Most likely your software has changed? Operating system updates, etc.
The source material /resolution you are working at (ie camera, or game? or whatever source material)?
OBS itself has had a major version update last fall.
And then there are OBS plug-ins, of various quality and levels of maintenance
