Obs stopped responding and my mkv recording is incomplete

Long story short, I'm 1 hour 20 minutes into my game when I decided to stop the recording. Unfortunately, obs stopped responding soon after, and the automatic remuxing mkv to mp4 bar thing didn't appear (green loading bar that appears whenever I press stop recording), and I was forced to sign out my pc because even the library and task manager went nuts.

So I had to sign out, because the program was not responding. I logged into windows again and checked obs' show recording, and the mkv file was saved, but the mp4 file was missing, but fine I suppose, I still have the mkv file. Sadly, the latter was only 45 minutes long, and was missing the later parts of the video.

Does anyone have any idea if there's anyway to retrieve the later parts of the recording?

Look at the log for the session. Most likely the encoder was overloaded & not getting much work done. I doubt if the missing part exists.
Yup, there are 10 logs there, only from today and yesterday. So I'm screwed then?

This sucks, I've been using OBS for 4 years now, this is the only time this happened to me.

Yeah, if you opened & closed OBS more than 10 times since that session, the log is gone. Keep an eye on things & if it happens again try the Analyzer &/or post the log in the thread.

Thank you for the advice.

I have question if you don't mind. I've actually just recently switched to recording with mkv. And by the looks of it, the moment I stop the recording, the recording is already instantaneously finished, in comparison to checking the "automatically remux to mp4" in which I would to wait for minutes before it finishes after I stop recording. So recording solely to mkv, then just remux it afterwards seems the way to go.

Now, let's say there was a power outage, and I was still recording when it happened. Will the mkv recording be fine and whole?
