Question / Help OBS Sources - Am I missing something?

I'm new to OBS, but not new to broadcasting software. Am I missing something, or just under/over thinking this?

In the middle of a broadcast I want to quickly and easily be able to enable/disable sources. For example, I may want to turn on a lower third, and then turn it off... then turn it on again shortly there after while on another input video feed.

My issue currently is that to enable, say a lower third, I have to create an entire scene with the input video source, the lower third, position it and then cut to it.

I feel like there should be a way to just create an image and be able to stick it on the live feed at any time without having to create a scene.

My biggest issue is lower thirds. I don't always know what input source I'll be on. So to have to combine an input source and image source to make a lower third into a Scene sometimes is way too time consuming live. There needs to be a way to just enable a Source into the existing video feed.

@hazmatt81 There is.You can create the source, open up Settings->Hotkeys & find your scene that you want to use. There will be a list of all your sources in that particular scene & you can assign keys to show & hide them.

P/S:For easiness, set the Show (scene name) & Hide (scene name) to the same key.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! This is exactly what I was trying to do.

I had a similar question to the OP. So you're saying that I would need to add the lower third (Freetype) source to all scenes, and give it the same hotkey for each scene. But then if I want to reposition or scale the graphic, how do I make it apply to all scenes? It's a lot of work (maybe impossible) to do the exact same transform in every single scene.

Assuming you chose "use existing" when you added the lower third (Freetype) to each scene, the content and scale of the Freetype source will change for all instances since you're essentially reusing the same component. However, as far as I can tell, positioning is unique to each scene, so you would have to reposition for each scene.

I think this is a very common requirement for broadcasters — persistent graphics that remain in place when the backgrounds switch. And adjustments always need to be made at the last minute. I guess I'll start a new thread in feature requests.
