Question / Help OBS:S stops sending data randomly when. Stream doesn't "stop" though.

Whoops, typo in the title. "OBS:S stops sending data randomly when streaming. Stream doesn't "stop" though."

Alright so here's the problem in the best way I can describe it. I will start streaming with OBS:S and it will either be fine for the length of my attempted streaming session....or it will just stop sending data at random it seems. In the bottom right it will display 0kb/s. If it matters it seems to be about a 3 in 10 chance that it streams without a problem. Doesn't seem to matter what the game is or what my bitrate is. Int the log attached below it shows a bitrate of 2000. I've tried lowering just as a test to as far as 1500. Same thing still occurs. It will stream just fine for a random amount of time, usually no more than 5min then it craps out again. I'm not dropping any frames or going above %50 usage on my CPU. I get no stutters before it happens nor after. When I press the "Stop Stream" button it changes to "Stopping Stream" and stays there.

Changing the Twitch server I am streaming to doesn't seem to help at all as the only way to get it to start streaming again is to completely exit OBS:S and restart it.

From all signs, this looks like the Windows 10 AU issues that have been going around, but on an AMD card for once.

Does this still occur when you disable the OBS Studio preview? What Windows 10 version are you on? You can check by running "winver" from your start menu. Also, what AMD drivers are you using?

I'm am indeed on the AU for Windows 10. My Crimson drivers are 16.8.2, and I haven't tried disabling preview but I was having issues today with the preview freezing. I think that was just Runscape though. Then again I think Overwatch may have frozen in preview as well once.

So I checked and if it is the AU...I'm stuck on it. I cleared my Windows.old file because I was running low on space. Stupid move on my part and now I'm stuck. I don't feel like doing a clean install. Is there any work around for this yet?

What exact revision of Win10 are you on? You can check by running "winver" from your start menu.

I've heard of Runescape having issues on Windows 10 AU as well, but I haven't confirmed that (I don't play it). See here.

Overwatch is CPU (and probably GPU) intensive, so any issues caused by Win10AU would possibly be more apparent when running that.

Well, I am getting this weird lag whenever OBS is open. It almost feels like my mouse stops responding for around 1 second when it happens. It seems random aswell as there is no CPU spike when it happens. As for what version I am on for Win10. Version 1607 (OS Build 14393.187).

Windows 10 Version 1607 = Windows 10 Build 14393 = Win10AU

Build 14393.187 has the cumulative updates KB3176938 and KB3189866/KB3193494, which are known to exacerbate the issues.

Currently, workarounds include:
  1. Disable the OBS Studio preview.
  2. Rollback Windows updates KB3176938, KB3189866, KB3193494, or their successors.
  3. Revert to a Windows 10 build that is before the Anniversary Update.

Well, I can't rollback the updates because "Go back to an earlier build" is completely grayed out for me. Due to the upgrade being more than 10 days old. -_- Guess I'll try disabling the preview. Thanks for the help though.

Rolling back updates is always available. Reverting to an earlier build is different, and that is not always available.

Open your start menu, type "Windows Updates", and then hit enter. In that window, click "Update history". Then click "Uninstall updates". It should show you all of the Windows Updates you have installed and give you the option to uninstall them.

The issue currently with Windows 10 is that even after uninstalling the updates, the auto install. Currently, and especially on home edition, you can not turn off automatic updates. So before you can stream you have to remove the updates, just for them to be installed shortly afterwards.

Well, I can see those updates on the list of installed updates but when I go to "Uninstall an update"...none of those are listed. XD Guess I am stuck waiting for a proper fix from the OBS team. Still haven't tried disabling the preview but I will soon.

Yes, I am aware of that particular annoyance. Welcome to Windows 10. =/

I heard a rumor that Microsoft had begun bundling the hotfixes with the AU when people update these days, but the same person who posted it retracted it. However, what you're saying sounds like they did bundle the hotfixes with AU.

As far as I'm aware, there is nothing the OBS team can do about it. It seems to be a low-level OS issue where Windows 10 mismanages VRAM.

I don't really know anything about AMD devices or drivers, and I've only seen this issue very rarely on AMD cards, so I'd like to check a few things, if you don't mind spending the time. If you'd rather not, that's fine too.

Do you happen to know what WDDM level the 16.8.2 drivers are? You should be able to check this by running dxdiag and checking the "Display" tabs for the "Driver Model" field. Is 16.8.2 the newest driver you can use? If not, does this also happen on newer drivers? Does this also happen on older drivers?
