Yeah, I get that the title doesn't make sense. That's because the issue I'm having doesn't make sense.
Last week, I was streaming Alan Wake, and playing it at 4K on High settings with a stable 60 FPS (Side note: Alan Wake looks beautiful like this). Naturally, this puts my GPU under near constant 100% load. Yesterday, I tried to resume that stream, game settings exactly the same, and suddenly the game's frame rate is sub 30 and janky has hell. Further testing with my monitoring software up and running revealed that when I open OBS to start streaming, my GPU load drops by about 20%, with no corresponding increase in CPU load. And as an additional wrinkle to this story, even after I close OBS, my GPU usage doesn't return to normal unless I quit Alan Wake entirely and reload it.
Does anyone out there have any idea what's causing this? And more importantly, how to fix it?
