Question / Help OBS records game capture, but kills TV display

So I have been using OBS to record console footage from an Elgato HD, but recently I have been having a problem. OBS is detecting my consoles and displaying the capture, but as soon as I turn on OBS, my TV that I'm using to play the console games loses its display. As soon as I turn off OBS it comes back on. I know it's not a problem with the Elgato as if I open the native software for it, both feeds with display fine. It has been doing this for both HDMI and Component inputs.

Does this only happen when you have the Elgato selected as a video capture device in OBS, or just launching OBS in general? If it's the former, you likely have the Elgato incorrectly configured in the Video Capture Device's properties. Double click it in the list, or right click and select "Properties." Go through each of the settings, especially resolution, and ensure it 1) matches what you're sending from the attached device and 2) is a resolution the TV supports. You may also try clicking "Configure Video" which will then open the Elgato properties window provided by the driver, and may provide more fine-tuned options.

It's only when the Elgato is being used as a Video Capture Device. If I delete the input or turn off OBS, the display comes back on, so it's transferring to the TV itself fine and is capable of doing both the PC and TV together with the Elgato software, just not any third-party (I double checked against Xsplit and Streamlabs and it's doing the same thing). I have reinstalled OBS twice, once just basic and the other uninstalled user settings, and reinstalled the Elgato software too in case that was causing an issue, still nothing. They are transferring the same resolution, and playing with the Elgato "TV Compatibility" settings yielded no results either.

There was a weird moment where when I changed the resolution of the capture device from "Custom" forcing 1080p to "Match Device Output" which was 1080p anyway, the display would come back on for a second and then immediately disappear again.

Sounds like a strange Elgato bug, then. Might be a hardware issue - if it's happening with other third party software too, might be best to contact Elgato as they'd have more thorough troubleshooting tips.
