Bug Report OBS records desktop audio at wrong volume

Log file A: https://gist.github.com/35d1e8c569aa243377ac - system volume at 32
Log file B: https://gist.github.com/b04d97f6a9c36f45eff1 - system volume at 100

I normally have my system volume set to 32 out of 100. When I record with OBS, the resulting video has my desktop audio very much quieter than it should be.. in fact, it is 32% of the volume it should be...hmm...

So, I turned my system volume up to 100% and removed my headphones to not kill my ears. I recorded with OBS. I turned my system volume back to 32 and listened to the video: it was at the correct full volume!

So, for whatever reason, OBS is recording using my system volume instead of just recording at full volume like the original OBS did. This makes the resulting video quieter than it should be. Not only is this immensely inconvenient, it's also completely unintuitive - why even provide volume controls in the interface if they are completely useless? There isn't a way to disable this behavior and restore the old behavior AFAIK.

Is there anything I can do to avoid this inconvenient work around? Setting my system volume to 100 is doable, but really annoying - some people have to use headphones with no built in volume control.

Perhaps you can leave your system volume at 32 while adding a gain filter to your desktop volume. Click the gear/cogwheel next to the desktop volume setting on the main screen of OBS and select "Filters". From there, you can add a "Gain" filter to boost the volume by specifying the decibal amount to boost.

Or, if you don't need that much of an adjustment, you could try bumping the desktop volume above 100% in the mixer.

Just a couple of thoughts. Don't know if they'll help you. :o)

This one gets people all the time. Your windows sound should be 100%, this is what people hear, this is what OBS records/streams. Your headphones should be 100% so you can hear it exactly the same way they will.

You turn down everything else to get the right levels, when you do it the other way around you get people complaining something is too loud, something is too quiet. You also have the option to turn everything down if you start at 100%

I turn all my games down to around 30%, music 20%

Did you find a fix for this?... I have the same issue, but only when I set AMD HD Audio as default audio device (HDMI through my graphics card)
But when I use on-board audio it works fine, I set Windows volume to 30 and OBS captures full volume audio.
If anyone has an idea how to get it work through AMD drivers please let us now.

Thank you.

This thread was opened a while ago. Is there a fix yet?
Because I have the same problem ;). Each time I open OBS Studio, the OBS Volume and any other source playing audio at the moment gets very low. When I record something the audio volume is way to low.
I watched the mixer and when I open OBS, there appears a second volume level for OBS and the source playing audio. The sound in my headphones gets lower and when I play the record, the audio in the record is even lower.

Sorry for my bad english;). I made some screenshots to show what I mean.

No, I don't have a solution for this, only a workaround. I'm lucky enough to have headphones with a volume control, so I just set my system volume to 100% and all applications to 100% and then turn down my headphones. This ensures I hear exactly the same thing as what is recorded.

If you do not have headphones with a volume control, sorry, I don't know what to tell you.

...I figured out, that I can first start OBS and then I can use the windows mixer to set the audio for OBS and the application back to normal. A bit complicated but manageble....still a strange bug!

OBS does not adjust any volume levels on my system. Are you sure there isn't another piece of software doing it?
