Question / Help OBS records choppy, however Shadowplay is immaculate...

For some reason, when using OBS and Shadowplay at identical settings, Shadowplay is flawless (though I want to use OBS because I don't want to record in VFR). OBS doesn't record smoothly. It's blurry and all around just not great. Even when I significantly lower OBS settings from 40,000 bitrate (which I use for shadowplay) to something like 20,000 in OBS, it results in the same problems.

Log file of one of the instances below.

Can someone assist?

You're overloading your GPU. Make sure you're capping FPS in your games. The difference between OBS and Shadowplay is that Shadowplay doesn't render/composite a scene, which means it uses less GPU resources and isn't affected by the load of the GPU, whereas OBS is. You have a 1050, which is relatively weak for playing games at 1080p 60fps, let alone before OBS is entered into the equation.

Can you inform me when it was normal practice to start capping your FPS in games for OBS to work properly? I didn't do it as recently as this year, but after not streaming for a while I am now forced to.

Thank you. I will upgrade.

It's always been normal. If your GPU is maxed out, OBS cannot properly render the scene. Recent updates to Windows 10 (such as Game Mode) have caused this issue to become more prominent, if that's what you're asking.
