OBS Recording/Replay performance hog!

Hi! I've been playing around a little with OBS and noticed a significant performance loss in games whenever I'm recording. VAAPI is chosen and used with identical settings I'd normally use on Windows. Now I've also used "GPU Screen Recorder and it barely makes a dent, about 1-3 FPS loss, so I'm stumped as to why this works well and OBS don't. With OBS I lose about 13-17 FPS, I'd prefer to use OBS due to the flexibility and control.

I tried with both h.264 and HEVC, VAAPI and Gstreamer (it didn't make a difference).

Is the game you are capturing frame limited? 93% dropped frames due to encoding overload seems excessive.

Alright, so I tried your suggestion and disabled anything frame limiting both in GOverlay and in-game and the results are the same. With the same scene in Helldivers 2, I took a screenshot without any Replay function enabled, one with OBS Replay with said settings in my original post, and one screenshot with GPU Screen Recorder.

With no load or limit, I had 81-84fps at max in Helldivers 2 with just the character standing looking outside from the "balcony", with OBS Replay on I had ~67fps, with GPU Screen Recorder I had 79-80. You can probably imagine the fps drops when in battle with effects going on with OBS running, at worst 33fps.

(Note, the "pause" menu doesn't affect the fps at all)

You _should_ limit the framerate, or else the encoder may not get enough resources.

Try running on Wayland instead of X11. The pipewire capture feature on X11 is working, but not well performing.

The framerate was limited from the start, I assumed from your message that I should've been unlocked. But regardless of whether it was locked, it still had the same issue.
