OBS recording is picking up strange static

In our recordings we are picking up a strange static sound.

We utilize a snowball microphone for audio input.
I have tested the microphone on another device. No static.

I have also tested audio input with the web camera and gotten similar static.

The issue is a recent development. As far as I'm aware I haven't made any personal changes to the studio, although I can't necessarily say the same for my boss.

It also looks like you are using CBR for local recording. Use the guide that deals with recording vs streaming. I am not sure that is the cause of static but it is something to change. On the PC in question does the mic pick up static when watching the sound meter in the Sound Control Panel under recording devices? I am assuming you have updated the drivers for all these devices from the respective manufacturers websites?

I also see in the logs that OBS could not load a codec and there is some mention of PIN errors on another device. This all sounds like device drivers to me. I could be wrong.

scrap the comment about the codec. I have now seen that same error in at least 3 other non-static related threads. So either there is a bigger problem or it means nothing.
