OBS recorder no longer able to capture browser video when browser is not the active window

Hello,

I'm not sure what happened but in the past week (maybe after updating to the latest version?) OBS I noticed is no longer able to record streaming videos played in my browsers UNLESS it is the main active window being used. I'm not sure why this is as it did so previously without incident. I have it set to "window capture" and am selecting either firefox or chrome as the source. (I would use browser capture but for some reason OBS is not recognizing chrome and firefox when I use them so I cannot select them when selectign to record browser I have to select them using window capsture) Previously it would not allow me to minimize the window or it would stop recording but at least it would still record will allowing me to use other active windows as long as I kept the browser windows being recorded maximized even if it was not active and upfront. Now if I do anything else OBS goes black screen (or in some cases white screen for some sites) when tryign to grab either firefox or chrome. I've tried with multiple different sites and it seems to be on every site now for both firefox and chrome. I tried the suggested fix on youtube for chrome which is to disable hardware acceleration in chrome but that did not work. Is anyone still able to use another window while still being able to record streaming video in a background browser video? Also tried the options "same executable" but that didn't help matters. Oddly when I mouse over my bottom taskbar in windows as if by magic the video will start recording again as if nothing happened but as soon as I move the mouse away from my taskbar is black screens unless I click on that specific browser and then it restart normal recording again. I can't for the life of me figure this problem out. Do I have to acvtively be using the window now in order to record it? Anyone have suggestions or an explanation as to why this is? Any help appreciated!

Update: very odd... It will let me play a game while recording still BUT if I try to click on a different browser it will black screen. Can't explain it.

I don't have this issue (yet) but the way you describe mousing over the lower portion of your windows machine magically makes the content "reappear"... sounds like it could be an issue with Windows Aero or the taskbar "peek" setting and/or "automatically hide". I used to use Livestream studio, now using OBS and I had a similar issue with the Aero theme & auto hide taskbar/Peel. When streaming I simply right click taskbar to get settings and turn all that stuff off.

I remember that it could be done without problems, but now if a window or another browser is overlapped simply the "captured window" of obs the image stops and cannot recapture the playing video.
Is there a version that they recommend that does not have that "error"

I just experienced this issue myself. I am running Windows 11 Pro and OBS version 30.0.0 (64 bit). I was using Chrome Version 120.0.6099.71 (Official Build) (64-bit). I was streaming something via the USA Network web site. I needed a snipped of the stream and all OBS would see is a black screen. I then opened another tab, went to youtube.com and streamed a music video. All was well.

I found some other links that said it could be security setting related, etc., but that wouldn't explain why Youtube.com streaming would be captured but not the usanetwork.com streaming.

I switched to Firefox version 120.0.1 (64-bit) and had success capturing content from usanetwork.com with OBS.

I will have to do some more research into Chrome and OBS and test a few more streaming sites to see if I can find a few others that OBS is unable to capture. From there, I will try to find some common settting(s) that may be the issue.

Another thing I found on the OBS web site where they specifically indicate that they do not offer this service as it is not legal practice to capture someone else's streaming content.
