OBS randomly starts/stops recording on its own

I have been using OBS for 6 months live streaming and using the "alt" button as a hot key to start/stop recording and I've never had any problems. However, recently it decides to start/stop recording whenever I click through other apps during my stream (spotify, internet browser, etc.). As I understand this is because the other applications are somehow using the alt button in some way or another? There's no consistency either as it really does feel random.

I am not pressing the hot key and this has only been a very recent problem. Does anybody have any insight on how to fix this? It's been miserably frustrating and I need a solution quickly.

I see this within the log file but I am not clicking the hot key.

Don't use the alt key as the only key to press. It has basic system functionality (ALT-Tab, ALT-F4, various application specific hotkeys) and will always start OBS functionality as side effect. Use a combination, for example ALT in combination with some F01..F12 key. It's not easy to find a combination not already in use with some other app.
