OBS portable and virtual cam => Camera not showing up in Windows devices nor in zoom. How to fix this?

Hi everybody,

trying to get VCam running with portable OBS on Win 10 but it is neither recognised in Windows device listings nor in zoom. I tried the zip file of the plugin and the installer - nothing works. The virtual cam does not show up anywhere while it is running in OBS (autostart). Tried running OBS as admin and in as normal user - nothing helps.
How can I get this working? Or do I have to use the installable version of OBS to get this running?

Any idea about on how I can fix this?

Thanks in advance!

Bye

For portable installs you must register / unregister the virtual camera manually.

Look in data\obs-plugins\win-dshow and run the appropriate file as admin.

The OBS virtual camera only shows up in apps that have camera/capture device support. For example in OBS itself. It will show up as soon as it is properly registered, regardless of being started or not. If it isn't started, it shows a static image with a big blue/black OBS icon on it. If it is started, it shows the same as the OBS preview.

It will not show up in Windows device manager, and the Windows camera app also cannot use the virtual OBS camera.

Can you be more specific?
I am running OBS v27.2.4 in portable mode and I see the folder but have not figured out how to run "the appropriate" file as admin?
