Question / Help OBS not picking up plugged in mic

I'm working on a MacBook Pro.

I was having a echo problem which seems to be solved by placing the settings in the mixer on "monitor only (mute output)". But now the audio from my mic (plugged in headset kind which is working for all other applications) isn't being recorded.

So, my question, is: what settings do I need in order to
• not have the echo
• have my audio recorded

And, if you could be so kind as to please specify how to do whatever you might suggest as I probably won't know how ....total nube here.

thanks very much!

Hard to advise without knowing more about your setup, system and OBS settings, but if you don't want to hear your own microphone, which is what I think you mean by echo, you don't want monitoring on for your microphone input.

If you choose "mute output" then that device won't be included in streaming or recording.

So basically you want things set the opposite of the way you have them.

How are you recording your desktop audio? Soundflower or something else?

Hi Narcogen, thanks, let me try again...
What I mean by echo is that about 20 seconds after I speak, I hear myself saying those words.

I don't know what "desktop audio" is. However, I don't think I'm recording it, as I don't have Soundflower or something like that installed.

Here's the task: I'm going to be doing a live-streamed webinar via Facebook. I've been able to set everything up to go live (I believe) but when I am streaming, I am either hearing myself with the 20 second delay or (when I mute it), not hearing any audio at all on the playback. When I have it muted I can hear myself through my own headsets, but I can live with that if necessary.

I'm happy to provide more info re: set up and system if I knew what exactly you were looking for.

thanks again.

Are you watching your own stream in a browser window? That sounds like you are getting the stream output put back into the input.

Yes, closing that window solved the problem. THANK YOU.

I'm watching it now on a different computer because I have to be able to see and respond to comments. But the FB window keeps saying "problem showing this video right now". Is that normal or is that going to be a problem when I need to respond to comments?
