OBS lowers sounds

Hello!

Whenever I open OBS in order to record my gameplay, I notice the sound levels of my PC (both game itself and other apps, like Chrome) drop. I have already tried Control Panel -> Sounds -> Communications -> "Do nothing", but despite that, the level still drops. I have also tried toggling OBS' "Disable Windows audio ducking" off and back on, no help. Is there something I could still try or do I just have to bear it?

That's "by intention". OBS takes part over from windows, for instance to have clear control over what (audio) source will be monitored (by "monitor+output" option). That functionality needs audio routing thru the obs internal audio mixer. In reality its not completely decoupled from the windows mixer, but sits "in between". In any case: When OBS starts, it doesn't "mirror" the actual mixing ratios given at the windows mixer level (the winidows mixer for itself is a crude thing to understand) into the obs' mixing state. Thus the level changes whenever obs ist started or closed.

Don't hesitate. Just bring all things and levels according to your needs while obs is running. These conditions should return at the next start of obs instantly.

Thank you for your reply! It is very helpful and reassuring to a total OBS rookie like myself :)
