OBS keeps freezing my computer?

Hey all,

Recently everytime I've started stream, OBS has caused my computer to freeze within minutes of starting. This first started last night when I was streaming and all of a sudden my cursor froze. It was extremely strange because my OBS and cursor had frozen, but the game I was streaming was still actively running and I could hear the audio and video working just fine. The only problem was my OBS was not responding and I couldn't move my mouse at all. The stream was still running and eventually I regained control of my PC without anymore issues for the rest of the night.

Tonight however, within minutes of starting stream, my computer will just completely freeze. Audio will still play but my computer does not actively shit the bed unless OBS has been running. I uninstalled OBS from my C Drive and moved it to my D drive. While it did seem to work okay as the computer took much longer to freeze this time than before, this issue is still persisting. It might be difficult to grasp any information from these crashlogs or changelogs due to me having to hard reset my computer each time this happens. Unlike the first time I had this issue, this computer freezing will completely kill the stream and take it offline.

Same. i updated yesterday. my entire pc has frozen mid stream 4 times. all immediatley after people have raided, given bits or anything else that triggers an alert. i check all my cpu and gpu diognostics and everything is running perfect. except obs. FIX THIS BUG!

It seems to be an issue with the latest version of OBS (27.2.0) I've reverted back to the previous version and I'm no longer crashing. They probably are working on a hotfix, so I'd suggest reverting back to an older version, until they iron out the bugs.

the only things that have changed with my setup was the new scenes that i made and the obs and nvidia updates. so i suspected one of those.

i saw this response earlier so it may have been a bug with the recent update.

I installed Audio Monitor 0.7.1 and then 0.8.0. In both cases, as soon as I start OBS it takes all available system memory and hangs the system. I have never been able to get Audio Monitor to work correctly. When I uninstall it, performance with OBS is fine.

Same issue here. OBS was updated and my wife's computer is regularly freezing or Windows is becoming completely unresponsive and requires a manual hard reboot.

Trying to roll back now. The stability is impossible on the new version the crashes happen within 15-30 minutes of starting OBS software regardless of attempting to do anything with it or not.

Same issues here! Windows completely freezes. It starts when an event/trigger occurs in stream, OBS freezes and even windows.

- whats the best and most simple way to ‘downgrade’?
- where can I find if OBS is aware of these bugs?

Can also confirm. It started happening for me a while ago now. I'd been putting off the update, then thought updating it to the newest version would fix the issue. However it continues to crash my system.

I even tried uninstalling it, removing anything to do with it and reinstalling and it still happens.

This is an awful blow if you are even a minor content creator and havin this issue. I've been unable to record any videos whatsoever in months....

I had the same problem in 27.24. Either freezing computer or recording never stopping. I uninstalled and reinstalled v27.2.1 and its been working ever since.

I still have this issue even with the newest version 28.0.1. But it happened right after I stopped streaming. In previous versions it happened randomly, sometimes 5-10 minutes after starting and sometimes after some hours

I’ve also experienced upgrading to the recent version 28, and it keeps crashing. CPU keeps maximizing up to 100% even when using NVIDI NVENC for processing instead of CPU. Downgraded to 25, and will see if still persists.

A lot of this thread has been people saying "me too" for issues that are not actually the same. Please set up your own threads and provide OBS session logs from launches of OBS where your problems happen.
