OBS keeps crashing when recording.....

I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling OBS, factory resetting my computer (wiping everything clean), running OBS in admin mode, making sure windows firewall isn't blocking it, closing third party apps, and several other small fixes to try and get it to work. Nothing works and it will crash in the middle of recording. I've never had this issue in my 5 years of using OBS until this year. It's been going on for about 3 months now and I figured an update would fix it, but nope.

I'm honestly frustrated. I haven't been able to record consistently at all in these 3 months. Every now and then I'll be able to record an entire matches worth of gameplay, but that's rare. Neither of my hard drives are corrupted. All of my components are working as intended.

Specs:
i5 13600k 3070 ti
16 Jigabytes of RAM
1 TB SSD
4 TB HDD

First thing for any recording problem: don't have OBS record as .mp4. Record as .mkv, and convert the file later if you need to. Mp4 takes more computer resources.

You don't mention what game or games you are recording, but OBS isn't the only thing running. Does it happen with all games or only one?

Have you looked at the OBS log files? An abrupt crash might not be able to update the log, but if there is a log file for the start of the session it might give hints about what is going off the rails.

Similarly, check the Stats (View, Stats) while you are recording. It shows dropped frames, CPU usage, average render time, so you can see if you are running close to the edge

Hey I realized this was actually the wrong sub to post in, so I moved it to the correct one where I clarify a bit more.

I will always prefer mp4 over mkv or any other file type regardless if the clip gets corrupted when OBS crashes. I have maybe one clip a week that gets corrupted and I record in 45 minute intervals so it's never a big deal. I like being able to edit my clip right away and while I appreciate the helpful advice my mind will never change regarding my preference.
