Obs is laggy before even streaming or recording

I was testing out a new game I bought and to see how it holds up with obs. I'm planning to stream the game, and it only requires 2 GB of ram. Which I have more than enough free.

But the issue is that the preview window on obs looks laggy as hell. I didnt hit stream, I did not hit record, yet it's already lagging up a storm.

What can i do about it?

The game in question is called sam & max saves the world (remastered) all settings are at the lowest and I'm using the x264 encoder

Please restart OBS and perform a test stream of at least 30 seconds doing as you normally do, including playing games, full camera or whatever you normally do.
Now look inside Help menu. Upload the current log file and paste the url to the log in here. Click on the Analize button to start troubleshooting common issues.
