Question / Help OBS in external hard-drive

I trie to install OBS in my laptop to record some YouTube gameplays, but it made gaming difficult as OBS heavily reduced my FPS. So i have a question: if i install OBS in an external hard-drive instead, will it still be a problem or will i be able to record normally? PLEASE tell me if you know it i have to know whether or not should i buy a hard-drive!!
