Question / Help OBS high GPU usage (after W10 update?)

Before today, i think OBS used about 3% GPU when recording & streaming.
Today, its using from 10 to 30% GPU, even when idle, making fps way lower in game.

The only thing that i changed that i know of is a Windows 10 required update this morning.
I reinstalled OBS Studio, downloaded new nVidia graphics driver, tried to revert the W10 update but it did not seem to help.

Had never had this high GPU usage from OBS before.

Help?

What seemed to help is to duplicate the scene collection and the profile and using that instead.
Same scenes and settings but somehow the GPU is back to 3% after this.
Maybe helps someone.

Hi,
I have a similar problem. Since recently and without changes I can only record 30fps.
But there were two updates during this time.
1- Nvidia firmware and
2- Windows... something about the 1803 patch.
well and since then it is not possible to record in 60 fps.

Thank you in advance for your comments and help!

Still have the problem, my "solution" above worked becasue it lowered the output fps to 30. When i set to 60 fps the GPU goes up again to 15-20%.
Had no problem at 1920 x 1080 x 60 fps before :/

Same high GPU % problem with Streamlab OBS, high GPU % at higher fps, so it doesn't seem to be isolated to OBS Studio...

Changing from NVENCHto x264 lowered my GPU to around 4%, but ofcourse CPU takes a hit to 25% compared to 3% with NVENC by OBS.

Same problem here... stuck with low fps when obs is focused on the game window.
Sounds to me like the same issue.

One clue for me is that OBS is always~4% GPU the first 10 seconds after starting up, regardless if its idle or if its recording. Then GPU goes up to 15-20%.

Ok, the weirdest thing:

If i start OBS, after 10 sec like i said it goes up 15-20%, then i switch to a new empty scene collection, no change.
Then i switch back to my ordinary scene collection, and OBS disappears from task manager, i record and the lag is gone in the game, and the recording looks fine in my ordinary encoder settings (1080 x 60 fps with NVENC).

If i now switch back to the empty scene collection, OBS returns as a task in task manager, but with only 3-4% GPU this time.
If i switch again to my ordinary scene collection, OBS disappears again in task manager, and still no heavy GPU use or lag ingame.

Seems like some kind of bug?

Also, when i have OBS window on my 2nd 60hz monitor/TV, and preview activated on OBS, my game (pubg) has a real fps at about 60 hz (but rivatuner is reporting 100+ fps.

If i turn preview in OBS off, or drag OBS to my main 144hz monitor, my game does not lag anymore...

If only a portion of OBS windows is on my 60hz screen, and the preview is on, the pubg fps goes down to 60 fps.

I have the exact same issue now in 2021. On 2 different machines! A windows 7 and windows 10 machine. Recently an OBS update came out. I am not able anymore to capture 1080p/60fps... My GPU's max out on both machines at 100%. At 720p the issue dissappears...When GPU maxes at 100%, i miss full seconds of frames. Can't get more choppier than that. It's terrible
