Question / Help OBS freezing

While using my Avermedia Extremecap U3 capture card, the capture will sometimes freeze. When this happens, attempting to remove the the video capture device or close the program causes the program to stop responding, requiring a forced shutdown. On attempting to open the program again, the source still won't work. The only thing that shows for that source is a black box. Attempting to close the program still ends up with it becoming unresponsive. Once the program has closed, it no longer appears in processes, as should be the case, but will still attempt to make use of the capture card. It can no longer be accessed in any other program as it is already flagged as "in use". The only "fix" I've found to this problem is fully rebooting the computer, which isn't really a viable option if it happens several times per stream. There seems to be no indication of what's causing the problem, and it doesn't happen in any set interval. I've had it happen several times within an 8 hour period.

Specs: Intel Core i7-4770 @3.40GHz, 16 GB RAM, Win7 64bit, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070

I've tried removing and reinstalling OBS, made sure that C++ runtimes were up to date on both 32bit and 64bit, made sure that the USB 3.0 controller had enough power to run the card, and drivers for the card are up to date. Worried that the capture card could be at fault, and hoping that this can prove otherwise.
