OBS Freezing and causing BSOD

Hi,

I have been streaming for a few months. In the last week, I started having an issue where when I open OBS, shortly after it loads, my computer starts lagging, then just freezes and I get the BSOD with the stop code: DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE. Everything else seems to work fine. I have updated my GPU driver (GTX1080 studio driver), I updated my network driver. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Streamlabs. I ran an SFC scan. It found errors and fixed them. I also have a similar problem when trying to open OBS Studio too. I can play games fine. I can encode video fine (using NVENC) with other apps. Any others have this issue and have possible solutions?

We cannot provide any support for Streamlabs OBS here. SLOBS is not OBS Studio, it is a derivative version hacked up by Streamlabs (since OBS Studio is open-source) with the front end removed and a webpage slapped over the top. If you need support for SLOBS, you will need to contact Streamlabs.

That said, a DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE BSOD wouldn't be caused by OBS or SLOBS, though they might trigger an existing one. That's a system-level failure code, not application-level. It's out-of-scope for support here, but I'd recommend Googling for 'DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE Windows 10' and looking through the results. There are a lot of them, many with a ton of potential causes to investigate, and solutions. Far too many for us to guide you through tracking down the problematic one.

It's almost never a bad idea to do a preventative DDU graphics card driver cleaning though, and do a fresh graphics driver install to rule out any lingering crud from older drivers sticking around as causing issues.
