Greetings,
i've been using both OBS and Studio for quite some time and i've had an issue which is now happening too often.
I'm using OBS Studio on a daily baisis to both livestream and do local recording of gameplay with multiple elements / webcam and stuff.
I can freely play any game on my computer for several hours without having any issue.
As soon as i add to the source list the capture device, an Avermedia Live Gamer Extreme, after one or two hours of livestream OR local recording OR idle preview my computer freezes and the sound goes weird. I have to shut down the computer since nothing responds anymore.
So, i've been experiencing this a dozen times already and I have been trying to do some troubleshooting by myself.
Here's what i've tried so far :
-Using ANOTHER capture device (still avermedia but livegamer portable), same issue.
-Using another USB 3 cable on the device, same issue.
-Using another HDMI cable between the device, my monitor and the console, same issue
-Using a USB 3 hub with an AC cord to ensure there's no issue with the way my motherboard gives juice to the usb ports.
After that i began investigating driver / firmware issues, i've tried recording with my internet access shut down, and by killing every other process. Same Issue.
I've also made the same tests with regular OBS, same issue.
So i decided to try XSplit (free version) and been streaming on 720p/30fps (which is what i'm usually streaming) for several hours straight without any issue.
To do some real stress test, i even launched the rendering of my replays on adobe media encoder, putting my CPU at 100% use, the video encoding being made by NVENC.
Finally, before leaving OBS for ever and trying to buy xsplit somehow, i'll probably try to plug the device on a PCI EXPRESS card with recent USB 3.0 ports, since my motherboard is 6 years old and i believe it MIGHT be possible there's a weird incompatibilty between my actuals USB port and OBS Studio.
I would like to know if i can fix the issue by myself and of course if any of you guys ever experienced the same thing or have some news tips / trials i can experiment. I'm way past being angry at this point and have been streaming my PS4 by capturing the remote play window...
Here's my OBS log file if nothing else, when the computer crash the log file is incomplete, so i made sure i found a log file with all informations. The only thing i find in it are "memory leaks" which sound like trouble but as i said earlier, i litteraly stream for 6 hours with xsplit, when using media encoder, without having any crash.
