Question / Help OBS dynamic resolution setting?

Hello.
I like to play old and new games which use different resolutions all the time (e.g: 4:3 320x200 - 640x480 - 800x600 or 16:9 720p - 1080p).
Changing the value manually in OBS (Settings - Video) seems quite an hassle and could lead to mistakes (=bad footage).

Is there some setting to make OBS use a dynamic resolution?
It should just adapt to the current display resolution (which could change during a fullscreen game).

As far as I know, there is no dynamic adaption of the base (canvas) resolution. But you can create presets for each of your often-used resolutions. Switching between presets is probably faster than changing resolution and adapting the scene every time.

If the game resolution changes during its run, you're out of luck. You cannot record one video that changes resolution mid-run. In this case, use the largest resolution you expect. The size of the source on the recording is able to change, so you get black parts right to and below the image, if the source resolution gets smaller than the base resolution. You can edit/crop this in a postprocessing step, if you need.

Sigh.. that's a pity.
I'll surely make a ton of mistakes :|
Anyway, where's the option for custom presets?

Btw I've just tried recording Age of Wonders (Gog) but OBS just shows a black screen with "Fullscreen App" or "Game Capture".
Only "Display Capture" seems to work for it.

Sorry, I meant profile, not preset. Use the Profile menu to create each for your often-used base resolutions.

Oh god, even worse.. these contain all OBS settings, not just the video ones.
If I change something, I'll have to remember updating all the other N profiles too.

I guess I'll stick to manually changing the base resolution every time T_T
Pls OBS devs..

@Harold

I didn't mean mid-file.
More like:
- I start the recording and the screen resolution is 640x480? Use that (for fullscreen).
- I start it at 1080p? Use that
etc..

@TMMTgaming
Weird, but you should create another thread about it, IMO

Is there a reason why using a bounding box or "Fit to screen" on the source would not work for you?

Suggestions can be made here, but I really think the functionality you're after can be achieved by a bounding box or "Fit to screen", unless you need to record the sources at exactly 1:1 pixels for some reason (and I'm pretty sure they're stretched to fit your screen in fullscreen mode anyway).

No, I often use black bars for old 4:3 games and I try to select their native resolution.
Anyway, thanks, I'll check that link and the features you mentioned.
