My problem is, that I connect an analog stereo to my sound blaster Z line-in. I can hear the audio fine on my PC but in OBS absolutely nothing gets picked up. I tried all possible combinations in the setting for AUX/Microphone and desktop speaker but neither the desktop audio nor the aux/microphone gain moves one bit. Again I can hear the sound at the same time fine on my PC. Yesterday I tried to go from my mixer directly into my PC (leaving the stereo out) same result tho, sound from PC is fine but nothing gets picked up in OBS. Also if i listen to a mp3 or youtube for example on my PC, OBS picks up the signal just fine. Only the line-in signal is nowhere to be found.

Ok im actually an idiot...vapeahoy kind of brought me on the right path though. I totally forgot, that I turned of mic use in my privacy options in windows years ago. And as the soundblast Z line-in works also as a mic line-in, no app was allowed to use it...so thanks for pointing me at the right direction

Normally Windows would revert those options to their defaults, so it's a bit weird. Local or Ms account might have an impact.
One could write a reg ADD "HKCU\some\setting\Mysettings" /v "TurnmeOffAlready" /t REG_BINARY /d "0000000000000" /f to a system startup batch to make sure those settings are done on startup. But it shouldn't be necessary. Windows is very much the world's largest beta testing program, but it works reasonably well, at least some of the time.

Happy it worked out for you!
