Question / Help OBS does not "see" Canon Vixia HF20

Hello, I apologize in advance if I sound ignorant, but I'm not too technically brilliant. lol. We are trying to connect a Canon Vixia HF20 to OBS to livestream via YouTube. We have used this camera previously with a BlackMagic Design for use with Livestream (Procaster) and it worked fine. So now when trying to connect to OBS, the OBS software does not see it as a device. The current set up is HDMI out from the camera into the BlackMagic and a Thunderbolt from the BlackMagic to a Mac mini (High Sierra). I did the auto config wizard in OBS and entered the YouTube encoder information (key), and OBS and YouTube can see each other. My problem is that OBS seems to not read the camera. I have clicked on "add source," video capture, entered a name, but when I go into the setting for that, it does not give me anything in the drop down boxes. So all I have is a black screen. Nothing changes when I click on Start Streaming. Do I need to change any settings on the Mac mini? Do I need to do something with the BlackMagic? Is the Canon camcorder not compatible? Do I need some other capture device? Thank you in advance for any assistance.

If your camera is connected to your Mac via the BlackMagic, then you want to add a BlackMagic source, not a video capture source.

Thank you for your response. When I click "Add" Source, there is nothing that says BlackMagic. However, today I updated the BlackMagic software and OBS was able to read that as a device under Video Capture, but now instead of a black screen all I get is a green screen. Any thoughts?

Afraid not. The only BlackMagic device I have is the Intensity USB, and it shows up under Video Capture devices.

Hmm, my BlackMagic device shows up under Video Capture as well but it's not reading the camera still (just green screen). Perhaps I need to contact BlackMagic to see why. I was reading somewhere among the hours of research I have done :) that if the camera is outputting at 1080i and BlackMagic is outputting at 1080p that would cause problems. I have no idea if that is the case or how to change it if it is, but it does make sense. Thank you.

The manual says 60i, 24p Progressive (records at 60i), 30p Progressive (records at 60i). Although, if I'm not transferring an actual recording, just capturing the image on the screen, would it really make a difference? Thank you.

Thanks for your input. I'm 90% sure it said HDMI, but I'll double check the next time I'm there (which probably won't be until Sunday).

one other idea is to keep a usb webcam plugged into the Mac then if/when I cannot get the Blackmagic to load I switch the input to the usb cam it loads then switch back to the Blackmagic input. works every time.
