Bug Report OBS Crashing When Changing Scene Collections (Probably NDI Plugin)

Hey,

Like the title says, suddenly my OBS started to crash every time I try to change Scene Collections. Two days ago everything worked just fine, but today I got on to start my stream and was rudely surprised.

The only thread I've seen on this same problem is this one https://obsproject.com/forum/threads/obs-crash-when-switching-scene-collection.94914/ where they seem to have narrowed the issue down to NDI Plugin, which is the only plugin I have. Unfortunately, I can't find anywhere that the OP followed up and found a solution.

I've tried to create a brand new, blank scene: Crash.

I've restarted my computer: Crash.

I've reinstalled NDI and Runtime just in case I somehow had an older version: Crash.

Here's a link for the OBS log file https://obsproject.com/logs/UH8pUyk4m51vxr-t

I'm using NDI to capture game A/V from my PS4, so just deleting it is not an option, but obviously I need to be able to change Scene Collections as well.

Please I'm hoping someone has a good solution for this. Thank You.

I found that a "ROGUE" plug-in was causing my OBS to crash every time I change my Scene Collection. Without a doubt I could not do anything. Until I found another forum where the same thing happened and they uninstalled the plug-in they weren't using. (It happened to be the one plug-in causing him to crash) I uninstalled all the plug-ins i don't use and now I can switch between Scene Collections without even losing my stream. Check it out.

File Explorer > This PC > Local Disk (C:) {That's where my program files are. That's a default drive letter unless you chose one yourself.} > Program Files > obs-studio > obs-plugins

From there it should be easy for you to find what you don't use and delete it from your registry.

GOOD LUCK!

Does anybody knows what is happening?

I've tried everything.

This computer is formatted. I only installed OBS. It's a Mac Pro running Mac OS High Sierra 10.13.6

I didn't install NDI plugins

Bump this. Same issue. No Plug-ins.
I cannot see the video but I assume its one showing obs crashing as soon as you attempt to switch scene collections - same here on Mac OS - its not a problem all the time just every once in a while it does it, and keeps doing for that "session".

I traced the problem to having duplicated scenes. Once I deleted all duplicated scenes and just built new ones I can now switch without crashing.

Hey Guys, I had the same issue running on mac and I had no plugins either.

But I did have the EOS webcam utility installed.
I uninstalled/deleted. Boom. Fixed.

Just logged in to say thank you! I started having this problem again after previously solving it by NOT duplicating scenes, and sure enough I'd installed EOS webcam utility since I last encountered this issue- so after reading your solution I disabled the EOS camera feed in one of my scenes it then allowed me to switch without crashing. I love OBS, but I also feel like a slight breeze will knock it over.

You Beauty!! - that saved me a major headache.

I had also installed the EOS utility and set up a Canon Camera in one of my Scene Collections. Changing away from it crashed every time.

Deleted the Canon Camera - all was fine

Many many thanks

I was experiencing the same behaviour on macOS and I kind of fixed it:
  1. Open the default OBS settings file: /Users/${your_username}/Library/Application Support/obs-studio/global.ini
  2. Modify the default scene collection settings under the [Basic]section, that is:
    1. SceneCollectionFile: set it to the scene collection filename you will find in the folder: /Users/${your_username}/Library/Application Support/obs-studio/basic. Example: Cafe_con_Codely (without the .json extension)
    2. SceneCollection: set it to the name of the scene collection you will find in its json file. It is set in the root name property value. Example: Cafe con Codely
  3. Save the changes done and start OBS. It properly opens the desired scene collection
However, I can not switch to another scene collection and go back to the "corrupted" Cafe con Codely one because OBS crashes again. I have to always change to this scene collection this way :§

I found a really and easy solution. Was having same problem with streamFX and EOS Utility Driver, just turn OFF "Browser Hardware acceleration" on Advanced tab and all work again smoothly.

Hello. So, I tried the solution provided by korak_gl and it didn't work.

And another thing, when I downgraded the software to the version OBS 29.1 instead of 29.1.1, it worked perfectly and flawless, and no error message showed up.

Help...
