OBS crashing, failing to stop recording and failing to start recording

Hi, please excuse, my first time on the forum.
I have used OBS for over a year now and have only recently started having problems.

I am currently recording gameplay using the H.264/AVC encoder with constant QP at default settings, Video settings are 1920x1080 base and output at 60 FPS.
The gameplay i am recording is Escape from Tarkov, and i am recording each raid (trying to) individually however my obs screen sometimes shows "stopping recording" and does not move on even if left for 30 minutes.
Other times it stops the recording as expected however when i try to start a new recording for the next raid OBS will not start recording and i have to end task in task manager and re open the application to begin recording again.
This cycle continues for every instance of OBS opened, either it fails to stop recording or wont start the next recording.

Current problems;
  • OBS crashing while trying to 'apply' in the settings dialog
  • OBS getting hung up while trying to stop a recording and crashing
  • OBS failing to start a new recording
  • Windows failing to resolve OBS crash resulting in having to manually end the process to continue, resulting in no crash logs being saved.
As this is my first time posting here please let me know how i should go about creating a log file & crash report.

My system is as follows.
  • Ryzen 5 5600x OC'd 4.75GHz (Also removed OC incase it was root cause)
  • MSI MECH OC 5700 xt on AMD driver 21.7.1 (Driver only install) (Not overclocked)
  • Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite, BIOS F35, chipset driver 2.15.07.2229,
  • 2 X 8Gb Corsair Vengance RGB PRO 3200mhz C16 Overclocked to 3800mhz CL16 (Also removed OC incase it was root cause)
  • M.2 NVme boot SSD (Samsumg 970 evo i think)

As @Harold stated in the obs issue above it was said that its caused by/since specific AMD software/driver version.
For a workaround follow up here:

switching to balanced instead of quality has worked.

Still have the odd crashing issue while applying settings though, and no crash files are saved

im recording high bitrate first person shooter games on the same machine, i believe x264 isnt a viable option.
Been recording on H264/AVC for 2-3 years now and only just had this problem the last week.

Any idea how much the cpu would be utilized doing say 25k bitrate x264 medium on 5600x?

Use one of the recording presets, you don't want preset medium or a bitrate target for recording, instead use a quality target so the encoder can use as many bits as necessary.

So you went back to AMD software 20.x? If so, and the issue still happens again, you should upload an actual obs-log.
Never mind, Streamlabs OBS has zero problems on the exact same system and settings so going to use that. it's a pity too. liked OBS' custom browser docks etc.
