Hey all,

I have been running OBS Studio 15.2 (64 bit) on my Laptop for a while now without any issues. However, since doing the Windows 10 Anniversary Update (windows version 1607), I am getting constant crashing.

It seems the obs-browser.dll is causing the issue from these lines

Unhandled exception: c0000094
Fault address: 7FF8F6A9A7C0 (c:\program files (x86)\obs-studio\obs-plugins\64bit\obs-browser.dll)
libobs version: 0.15.2
Windows version: 10.0 build 14393 (revision 0)
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4720HQ CPU @ 2.60GHz
My browser sources are only going to twitch alerts for chat and alerts. Been using them for ages without an issue. I have also tried running OBS in 32 bit mode with same results.

I have also tried re-installing OBS from a clean download in case something got corrupted and no difference. Everything seems to work for a bit and then the scene freezes and crash follows soon after.

I have included the log and crash log.

I would love to use linux, but unfortunately the Avermeda LGX has no linux drivers, and neither does Deepbot.

Any help would be appreciated.. thanks.

Just tried complete reinstall. Uninstalled old one, removed the folder. Rebooted, installed new one.

Same issue.. no change.

After Complete reinstall of everything including a fresh install of Windows (1607 version), the problem is still there with a similiar log thing happening. I have been running OBS on my game computer (no avermedia LGX input, just screen capture) with the same scenes, browser sources etc.. and no issues.

After doing some searching, it appears that it might be the Avermedia LGX that is causing problems. Many driver changes, installs, reinstalls etc. and still crashing happening. I am pretty much running out of things to try.

Anybody have any suggestions.. used to work fine until 1607... :(

Wish it would work on a REAL OS like Linux. :(

Just did another stream.. after 4 hours it crashed.. difference was this time I set the Avermedia LGX scen to "Deactivate when not Showing".

This was also using the: GC550_driver_v3.0.x.74_20151012 drivers as the "newer" drivers are way worse for crashing.

Wits end.. not sure what to do.

Are you using an Avermedia LGX card? Trying to find a common thread here. I run OBS on my main machine for hours and had no crashes. Only the one with the Avermedia is getting issues.

Update.

I have been running with the old drivers and last night cas capturing the old monitor for about 8-10 hrs with no crashes.. started it up today and just started capturing while doing other work.. no streaming... and freeze and crash.

This time, the log actually says something. It might have something to do with D3D11. Could somebody have a look and let me know if you have another idea?

Thanks
Tal

Update.

I installed windows 8.1 with all the 8.1 drivers (all 64 bit) and now it seems to be running fine.. been capturing for over 9 hours and no crashes yet.

After all that, conclusion seems to be windows anniversary update and Avermedia drivers are borked.

EDIT: After 5hr stream.. not one issue. Windows 10 1607 update is crap CONFIRMED. lol

The Windows 10 Anniversary Update isn't causing issues with OBS Studio, it's causing issues with any kind of video capture device (webcams, game capture boxes, etc.). The change that's causing issues has to do with how Windows allows applications/processes to access data from video capture devices. The Anniversary Update introduced a breaking change to this process, and device drivers for most devices have not been updated to work with the new way Microsoft wants everyone to do it now.

This has been discussed quite a bit since the Anniversary Update was released in early August. Unfortunately, the options at the moment are:
  1. Wait until companies with products/drivers that don't work with the new Win10 update release fixed drivers.
  2. Wait until Microsoft releases patches to workaround the issues between Win10 and the drivers.
  3. Uninstall the Win10 Anniversary Update.
  4. Toggle a registry value to restore the functionality from before the Anniversary Update (also mentioned here).
I'm not sure that it's possible to implement a fix for this in OBS Studio. I mean, there is this, but this is all quite honestly a bit over my head. Someone more knowledgeable is welcome to correct me on any of this, or offer a better option.
