Question / Help OBS Crashes

Hi guys,

I recently started having an issue where OBS will randomly crash. I have a Ryzen threadripper 2950X overclocked at 4.2Ghz and am streaming at 1080p60 on a dedicated streaming rig at a bitrate of 8000. Currently, I'm running x264 slow with profile set to high, process priority set to high, and Lanczos downscaling. I have temporarily lowered the x264 preset to medium and it doesn't seem to crash, but this is obviously not a good permanent solution. The reason I went with such a high-end processor was to run slow to compensate for the bitrate restrictions on Twitch and achieve maximum quality. I dont know why this issue seems to have started happening out of the blue. The crash log has been attached, I appreciate any help and/or insight you guys can provide. Let me know if there is any further information you need.

The crash occurs in x264, which is a sign of an unstable CPU/overclock.
  • revert the overclock
  • make sure you have the latest bios with the latest AMD microcode
  • make sure your RAM is ok by running Windows memory diagnosis

By the way, at a bitrate of 8000 there is no visual difference between preset "fast" and any higher preset. You don't really need slow.
