Question / Help OBS Crashes when I start Streaming or Recording

Hello, I am having this problem where as soon as I press start stream/recording, OBS crashed. I have uninstalled and reinstalled with ne help. I have also doubled checked the stream key and all of my settings. What do I need to do?

That looks like this crash in the AMD AMF encoder.

You can avoid this crash by using x264 instead of the AMD AMF encoder. If you still want to use the AMD AMF encoder:
  1. Update your AMD drivers to 18.3.4 or newer.
  2. If #1 doesn't fix the crash, try this.
  3. If #2 doesn't fix it, then you'll have to avoid using the AMD AMF encoder until the crash condition is fixed by AMD or the encoder plugin.

How would I change to x264?

In OBS Settings > Output, change the encoder to x264 (or Software x264).
