OBS crashes using 2nd monitor

hi i've seen a few threads here but i wanted to post about my specific situation. i've been running obs on my macbook using virtual dj to stream on twitch. just bought a larger 2nd monitor (31" LG 4k) , using hdmi (on monitor) cable to to thunderbolt (on macbook). So when i fire up OBS the whole computer seems to freeze/crash. Any suggestions for fixes? thank you
