OBS Crashes Frequently

OBS crashes frequently during the following situations:
  • Within 10 seconds of opening OBS
  • When switching Scene Collections
  • When closing OBS (Freezes and then won't close. Has to be terminated)
This happens about 75% of the time when doing any of these things. The most recent case took place during a recording, which has never happened before.
I'm using OBS 27.2.4 because I use another software that does not yet support OBS 28.
I have done some research and my best guess is that one of my plugins is causing the crashes, but I don't know how to read the log file to be able to pinpoint the issue.

You're using SE.live. Please contact them for support.
Alternatively, uninstall it. Then uninstall and reinstall OBS in order to fix the changes made by SE.live. Now please do a test stream/recording of more than 30 seconds and post the log file here.

You also can (or should) remove the remaining se.live files from the %appdata%\obs-studio folder.

Does the issue still happens?
Run OBS as Admin.
You can reduce a lot of clutter and overuse of system resources using 1 browser source for all the streamelements things. You can create different layouts in SE site for each scene where it's different.
Monitor capture must be on it's own scene, not in the same with a window or game capture as it consumes a lot more resources and interfere with the other capture methods.
StreamFX filter also consume those precious resources. Use them wisely.
Same as above with audio filters.

In OBS less is more. Keep it simple as much as you can.

It seems to be working crash-free for the time being. I'll reinstall SE.live now. If I had realized that would be the issue I would have contacted their support first.
Thank you for the tips! I'll consolidate. Much appreciated!

Actually, I found the real issue.

I use a plugin called "win-capture-audio version 2.1.0" that allows me to separate out all my audio sources by application. That plugin lived within the %appdata%\obs-studio folder, so when you had me uninstall OBS, that folder was erased and the plugin erased with it, which is why the problem did not persist after the re-install of OBS. I reinstalled the plugin and sure enough, immediately started having the same issues as before.

There are new versions of the plugin so I'll try those out but if the issue persists, I will find another audio source solution. I know OBS 28 offers this feature natively, but as I mentioned before I'm using OBS 27 until my other software are updated to support OBS 28.

If anyone else has a different audio source solution, let me know!
