It seems you configured your game to run in exclusive fullscreen mode with a resolution different to your desktop resolution. To make the game occupy exactly the video area, you need to set Settings > Video > Base (canvas) resolution to the fullscreen resolution of your game.

Can transforming also do the trick?

If you fit or stretch the source, you could fill the whole video area, but by stretching you will distort the image, and by fitting you will bloat the image without adding detail information. For both cases, the result will look worse and occupy more disk space. Don't do that.

Create a new profile in obs for each resolution you intend to record. This way you can easily switch between resolutions by switching the profile.
