I use OBS to stream old dos games played via DosBox. I use a headset to be able to hear the audio from the game (and the mic to pick up my voice).
Currently to capture a DosBox game I have to use a window capture for the video, and Audio Output Capture on my headset to pick up the game audio.
I have an alerts box through StreamLabs which previously I have only been running in "Monitor Off" (Output only) mode. However, I have been missing some alerts because I have not been able to hear the audio. When I change my output option to "monitor and output" I get an echo, naturally because I am recording both the output to my headset via the monitor option, and recording the direct output from the alerts box.
As a poor work-around I CAN put the alerts in "Monitor only" mode and have the audio recorded via the Desktop Audio channel. This is okay, but it feels like a kludge. Instead I would prefer to set things up in one of the following ways. If possible I would like to solve this without the use of additional 3rd party software (to reduce the number of "moving parts").
Solution 1: Is there a better way to capture DoxBox audio directly so I can get rid of the output capture/desktop audio channel?
Solution 2: Is there a way to set up monitoring to my headphones without also having the monitor output recorded? (I'm expecting this is impossible by its very nature)
Solution 3: Am I missing some other clever or obvious solution?
If this is impossible without 3rd party software please say as much. I'm not ruling out the use of it, I just don't want to use it if I don't need to.
I appreciate any assistance, insight, or being told my scenario is impossible.
