Question / Help OBS-and the black square

So I'm going to have a hard time explaining this, even the title I had trouble with what to call it so it'd be easy to find in a search quarry.
So I'll premise this by saying that a guy I know looked at my settings and couldn't figure it out, it completely stumped him so he sent me here. (That said)
OBS Studio will only let me stream in "Window Capture" not in "Game Capture" and neither won't take up the whole OBS screen and it's the same for viewers as well, all they see is a square box that doesn't take up the whole screen.
(the tags for "" doesn't work for me. so here's a link of the screenshot "https://gyazo.com/6b29175986fb75a62b4cfdd89c0650c9"

(Output) (Advanced mode) Encoder x264 "enforced streaming service encoder settings box is "ticked"
(Rate Control) "CBR" (bitrate 2500). Someof the words in OBS are cut off I and I can't tell what it says, below "bitrate" is (something higher = less CPU) set to "Very Fast"

Next he and I have tried going through settings like in (Video settings) (Canvas resolution: "1280x1024" (Output Scaled) R "1280x1024" )
It looks like my PC specs are in the log files.

have questions I'm here at my desk ask away and thank you.

In the picture you posted you have all of your sources set to not display.

Also the "Black square" is actually the preview area. The grey to the left and right is the back canvas area for OBS to put the preview in.

Your Base and Output resolution are 1280x1024 (basically 4:3), yet almost all video players on the web are formatted for 16x9 (e.g. 1600x900, 800x450, 1920x1080, 1280x720). So if you stream at the 1280x1024 resolution, almost every player will have black bars on either side.

So you're saying that I should set the output res. to anyone of these (1600x900, 800x450, 1920x1080, 1280x720) I don't an option for "1920x1080" oh and the "sources set to not display" was set to display during testing, and I would switch back and forth from "Wind Capture to Game Capture" that was just a screenshot to show how it's square.

You are not limited to the resolutions listed in the Base or Scaled resolution. Just type in what you want.

Yes I just figured THAT out lol now I'm just trying to match the stream with the canvas. The canvas is set to 1920x1080 and I'm working it from that.
