OBS 30.0.2 - Silicon Version - Causing 125-290% CPU

Hi everyone,

New streamer here. I'm trying to set up my Macbook Pro M1 Max (2021) as a streaming machine and am having the toughest time. I have adjusted every setting possible, and updated everything I can, including the latest Silicon Valley OBS build, and I am getting crazy CPU% from OBS and Elgato Game Capture. (Even with preview disabled). Before I start the stream OBS will run at 125% CPU, and when I start the stream it runs at 290% on the medium setting. I want to have a high-quality stream and that's what I thought I'd get with an M1 Max computer.

Are there any other optional add-ons or custom OBS build Mac M1 users are using that are getting much better results? I am begging the OBS community to help make OBS optimized for Mac (Silicon version). I've heard those with Intel processors are not having problems, and that just doesn't make sense.

If you can give me some guidance on settings or optional builds/addons I would be extremely grateful!

Thank you!

After upgrading to 30.0.2 on my MacBook Pro M2 Max, I'm encountering the same issue. OBS consumes most of my CPU and makes everything about my machine lag. This only happened after updating to 30.0.2; however, I also upgraded to macOS Sonoma 14.2 (23C64) at roughly the same time. I downgraded to 29.1.3, and the same issue is happening; I suspect something about the macOS update is not playing well with OBS, but I'm not sure.

Thanks for letting the community know. Maybe someone on the development side can look into this more.
