obs 29 and headless displays

I just upgraded to obs 29. I use a headless computer with VNC that I always recorded on. The new features surrounding display support don't seem to be compatible with this setup. I cannot use "display capture" anymore, obs says "device not connected or not available" as shown in the attached screenshot.

does anyone know of any workarounds for this? thanks much!

just fyi - sort of a workaround, I tried 'window capture' and it worked for what I wanted - to capture full screen video playing back. Still disappointing that obs studio 29 seems to have broken display capture.

If anyone knows how to get display capture on a headless windows 10 pc going in version 29, I'd appreciate hearing about it.

thanks

HDMI or DP output, use one of these. I use the Headless GS as my 4k monitor & it works perfectly.

sort of sucks that something that worked for all prior releases of obs studio suddenly completely stops working - without adding hardware :(
