Question / Help OBS 22.0.1 / Mac OS 10.14 Beta - Game Capture (Syphon) issue

When upgrading my test machine to run the Mojave Beta, I found that my previously working Syphon configuration stopped working (screenshot of properties screen attached). If I attempt to remove and re-create the Game Capture (Syphon) source, the Source dropdown is empty.

Has anyone else run into this and / or have thoughts on how to resolve?

Is OBS failing to inject, or is SyphonInject failing to launch?

On that system, can you manually launch SyphonInject, inject an application, and then observe that application in Syphon Recorder?

Trying to isolate where the problem would be.

Hopefully this helps answer your question so we can isolate where the problem is:
  • If I launch OBS / Syphon Recorder / Simple Client / SyphonInject and then select OBS and click Inject...nothing happens in Syphon Recorder and nothing is available in the OBS properties dropdown for source.
  • If I launch OBS / Syphon Recorder / Simple Client / Simple Server I immediately see the Simple Server video in the Syphon Recorder. In addition, I can then select Simple Server in the OBS properties dropdown for source and see the same test video in the properties preview

FWIW, What I am trying to do is feed the output from OBS as a virtual camera that I can then connect live to Skype, Hangouts, etc.
I had this working via OBS / Syphon / CamTwist on OSX 10.13 but if there is a better way that will work on 10.14 I am open to it.

This may be a problem with Mojave Beta. I'm unable to replicate on Sierra/High Sierra.

That said... no better time than now to start looking for alternatives since Syphon hasn't been updated in forever, doesn't support Metal anyway, and Apple is sure to deprecate OpenGL (on which both OBS and Syphon depend) in coming years.

OBSProject I think very well might find a way to get around the problem, but I'd expect Syphon to either go away or be replaced by something else.

A shame, since it's a pretty neat tool-- so is CamTwist.

Agreed re: it being Mojave specific. It works fine on High Sierra and breaks the moment I upgrade to Mojave. So far I have not had any luck finding a viable alternative to Syphon. If anyone out there has a suggestion, please let me know.

Based on the results of some additional testing, I believe the source of the issue is SyphonInject (i.e. SyphonInject is what has stopped working on Mojave).

I'm a novice at this but discovered this thread after yesterday's mainstream Mojave update that broke my OBS/SyphonInject/CamTwist setup. I don't know that I'll be any help fixing anything, but would happily test if a possible solution is identified. Thanks - Anthony

I don't know that there will be. Syphon doesn't appear to have been meaningfully updated in at least 3 years.

Hey everyone! I'm on a high sierra mac trying to get OBS injected? into CamTwist to then use in Skype. Camtwist seems to recognize the syphon injected OBS, but then in Skype it just shows the "camtwist TV emergency broadcast" rainbow screen.

I have no idea what the issue is and it feels like im 90% there and just chose one wrong option along the way. is this correct? I attached photos.
