NVENC Start Error When Streaming, Recording, and on a Discord Call

OBS Version: 29.0.2
CPU: i9-10900k 3.7 GHz
GPU: RTX 3090, GeForce Game Ready Driver 531.18 (current release from 2/28)
Windows 10 Pro 21H2

Hey everyone,

Usually while streaming OBS I have a discord video call with a friend open, the stream is running, and I'm recording the stream on the same machine. I know it's not ideal, but we don't stream newer games and performance has never been an issue until now.

Now when I try to start recording after starting the stream and having the discord call open I receive an error message that there's a general failure. I believe it's because there are too many concurrent sessions. If I leave the discord call, start the stream and recording, then rejoin the call I am able to stream and record simultaneously, however NVENC is not being used as the encoder (per the log file).

This is an issue because I was previously using a custom action on my stream deck to start the replay buffer, grab the last 5 minutes, stop it, and start it again so that I don't have to record the entire stream and don't have redundant footage. Now if I do that then I am unable to restart the replay buffer once I have the discord video call open.

I'm not sure what changed and any help would be appreciated. I have tried:

- Updating OBS
- Updating GPU drivers
- Rolling back to a previous version of OBS that didn't have this issue
- Uninstalling GPU drivers with DDU and reinstalling to latest
- Uninstalling plugins from OBS

I'm not very savvy with OBS so I'm sure I'm missing something in the log files. Thank you for your time!

This is the error message I am getting when encountering this issue. As the log indicates Windows 10 Game DVR is disabled (I disabled this at the registry level just to be sure) and NVIDIA Shadowplay is not running.

Thanks for the reply! As mentioned in the OP, I already tried uninstalling the GPU drivers via DDU and reinstalling them to the current version. My GPU is an NVIDIA 3090, so it definitely supports NVENC encoding, and switching encoders did nothing to resolve this issue.

Those are both the recommendations that the analyzer makes for this issue. Any other suggestions?

UPDATE: Turns out this issue was being caused by discord. Once I disabled Hardware Acceleration under Settings > Voice & Video > Hardware Acceleration in discord the issue was resolved. Current log with successful stream + recording here:
