Hello, dear OBS community. I have a very peculiar problem, that started a few months ago:
Whenever I want to record or stream using NVENC to encode, which I have done successfully for years now, I get greeted with following error message:
"Failed to start recording/streaming
Starting the output failed. Please check the log for details.
Note: If you are using the NVENC or AMD encoders, make sure your video drivers are up to date."
I am using the latest stable nVidia drivers, 442.72, but this problem has persisted with the last 3 or 4 stable releases. I am using OBS 25.0.1 (64 bit), but it also was a problem befor the latest update.
I have tried to find a viable solution by googling it and searching through these and nVidias forums, but I have found nothing that solves the issue, save using the x264 encoder. Which hampers performance too much to be feasable.
Interestingly, whenever I reinstall the gpu drivers, recording works until I have to restart the PC.
The log of my latest streaming attempt is attached.
I think the relevant lines are:
1:00:18.988: error: OpenEncodeSessionEx failed: out of memory (10)
11:00:19.010: fatal: No NVENC capable devices found
11:00:19.010: [NVENC encoder: 'recording_h264'] Failed to open NVENC codec: Generic error in an external library
Now I have tried to disable all other potential "hogs" of the NVenc, like Discord, Steam, Shadowplay, GameDVR etc, but to no avail.
