Question / Help Not recording drop-down menus

I was window capturing sessions with my Tableau desktop software. The session recorded OK except for drop-down menus, both from the menu bar and from another area (the Marks area) that allowed graphic property selections.

Under Windows 10, to record most opened menus from applications, your only choice is to use display capture. Window capture will not grab them. Window capture always captures the main application window only.

I have the same issue, but it was recently working until the latest update although that might be coincidental. I can use Window Capture, specify the piece of software I need to record but as soon as I click on a drop down area or an icon that would open a pop-up window, naadaa, nothing, just will not work but it use to, did 30 videos in January 2020 just fine. I have told windows in graphics setting OBS. This is not the black screen issue. Yes I'm using a laptop, HP ZBook workstation i7. Tried all sorts of variations to get it back, any suggestions very welcome, I am a relative newbie to OBS. Thanks in advance

If it was working until the latest update, then try switching to the BitBlt method in your window capture settings.

Hi, thanks for the idea carlmmii. So I am using Window Capture so that I can specify the piece of software to record, tried setting the Capture method to BitBit, but unfortunately it made no difference. Neither tool tips or drop down menus appear.
Any other suggestion would be gratefully received

UPDATE: I now have it working. Abandoned using Window Capture and swapped to Display Capture, but had the Black Screen issue. So follow the steps laid out here: https://obsproject.com/forum/thread...ing-the-steps-on-obs-forum.112109/post-448711
and now it is capturing everything.
